National conference on comprehensive sexual education

The National Conference on Comprehensive Sexual Education was held in Kathmandu in May 2023, with the theme "Proceeding Ahead with Extensive Sexual Education to Attain SDG 2030." This event was organized by Nepal's Ministry of Education, Science and Technology and the Ministry of Health and Population, supported by UNFPA and several NGOs. The conference aimed to foster discussions on integrating comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) into Nepal's education and health systems to meet national and international commitments related to sexual and reproductive health. Over 300 national and international participants gathered to explore strategies for effectively implementing CSE in the country.

The conference covered key topics such as gender equality, sexual and reproductive rights, and the challenges marginalized groups face. It highlighted issues like child marriage, violence, and the need for youth-friendly services. The event concluded with the Kathmandu Declaration, which underscored CSE as a fundamental right for adolescents and youth. The declaration called for better coordination among stakeholders, development of age-appropriate educational materials, and measures to prevent harmful practices, ensuring a safer transition to adulthood.
