Key Information

This interim technical note, published by UNFPA in April 2020, provides a quantitative impact assessment of how the COVID-19 pandemic threatens progress toward achieving key Sustainable Development Goals related to girls' and women's rights and well-being. The report models and projects the pandemic's effects on four critical areas: family planning access, gender-based violence, female genital mutilation (FGM), and child marriage. Developed in collaboration with Avenir Health, Johns Hopkins University, and Victoria University, the document uses scenario-based modeling to estimate potential setbacks under varying lockdown durations (3-12 months) and service disruption levels, providing stakeholders with evidence-based projections to inform advocacy and programming decisions.
