Key Information
The Government of Laos, through its Ministry of Education and Sports, in collaboration with the organization Room to Read Laos, has launched a project called Life Skills Education for Gender Equality. The project is scheduled to run from July 2025 until June 2029, and covers eight districts in two provinces: Luang Prabang and Champasak.
The aim of the project is to strengthen life‐skills education in secondary schools, with a focus on a set of skills including communication, leadership, teamwork, decision‐making, and critical thinking. A particular emphasis is placed on supporting young people, especially girls, to live with confidence and safety in a changing social context. Key components include teacher development (training master trainers, school principals, and teachers), curriculum revision, advocating for policy inclusion of life‐skills education, and exploring inclusion of skills training in both pre‐service and in‐service teacher education across the country.
