A Active

Key Information

This project, launched by the French Ministry of National Education, aims to combat gender bias and promote gender equality in mathematics education. Beginning in the 2025 school year, all teachers will undergo mandatory gender bias awareness sessions, led by trained school leaders and equality coordinators. These 2-hour sessions will be based on school-specific statistics to highlight gender disparities, particularly in mathematics. A long-term training plan will follow, providing all primary school teachers and secondary math teachers with at least one full day of training on identifying and avoiding unconscious gender bias. Additionally, a charter promoting awareness of stereotypes will be displayed in teacher lounges across all schools.

The project also seeks to increase the representation of girls in mathematics and science pathways. National goals include boosting the number of girls choosing math specialization in high school and ensuring at least 30% female representation in preparatory science classes by 2030. Measures include targeted enrollment goals, the creation of specially scheduled math and science classes in lower secondary schools, and balanced recruitment of female math teachers in elite preparatory programs. Finally, from 9th to 12th grade, schools will organize annual meetings with female role models to inspire young girls to pursue careers in STEM, with a pilot phase beginning in 2025 and nationwide rollout planned for 2026.
