Key Information
The COVID-19 Support for Adolescent Girls project in Sierra Leone aimed to strengthen the health, protection, and economic resilience of adolescent girls during the COVID-19 pandemic. The initiative provided vocational training in soap-making to girls in multiple villages, enabling them to produce and sell sanitation products that were in high demand during the public health crisis while also supporting community hygiene and disease prevention efforts.
Alongside livelihood training, the program integrated education on life skills, health, protection, and gender equality, including messaging on hygiene practices, social distancing, and personal safety. By combining income-generating opportunities with awareness-raising and skills development, the project sought to reduce girls’ vulnerability to economic hardship, exploitation, and gender-based violence while promoting community health and empowerment.
