Education for Gender Justice

  • P Project/Program

? Activity Status: Unknown

Key Information

The project focused on transforming education to promote gender justice and to fight inequality. Working with local civil society partners and in collaboration with the local government counterparts, Oxfam in Malawi promoted safe schools to improve the access, retention, and completion
of girls, with a strong focus on the mitigation of School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV). This project worked with councillors and traditional leaders to reform the underlying social norms that hinder
girls’ access to and completion of transformative education. The project promoted approaches aimed to improve numeracy and literacy, teachers’ professional development, access of girls to secondary education through bursaries, and gender responsive contents and methods. It also influenced more gender-responsive policies and financing, such as school re-entry for teenage mothers, and gender budget analysis/tracing by civil society and women’s rights organisations.
