Key Information

The development objective of the Improving Education Quality and Results for All Project for Mali is to increase learning outcomes in early primary education in targeted areas, to promote girls’ access to lower and upper secondary education in underserved areas, and to enhance the governance of the education system. The project comprises of five components. The first component, accelerating learning through improved quality aims to improve the quality of primary and lower secondary and upper secondary schools by directly supporting a package of activities to enhance the inadequate teaching and learning conditions. It consists of following sub-components: (i) improving quality in primary and lower secondary schools; and (ii) improving the quality and governance in upper secondary education. The second component, building stronger pathways for girls education success aims to directly respond to the unfinished access agenda in primary and lower secondary education and address the critical challenges of the low enrollment, transition, and retention of girls in lower and upper secondary (second cycle du fondamental et Lycee) and the increase of the number of out-of-school youth. It consists of following sub-components: (i) improving conditions for girl’s participation and completion of secondary education; and (ii) incentivizing transition and retention of girls in secondary education. The third component is strengthening the governance and resilience of the education system. It consists of following sub-components: (i) improving education service delivery and the resilience of the education system; (ii) supporting the education sector’s response to Coronavirus disease (COVID-19); and (iii) improving evidence-based decision-making through the use of actionable analytics. The fourth component, contingent emergency response will allow to provide an immediate response to an eligible crisis or emergency, as needed. The fifth component, strengthening monitoring and evaluation (M and E) and supporting project management aims to strengthen institutional capacity and M and E systems, including compliance with agreed performance-based Condition (PBCs).
