Key Information
The World Food Programme (WFP) Pakistan and the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (GoKP) have initiated a cash-based stipend program aimed at supporting girls' education in the Merged Districts (MDs) of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the WFP and the Elementary and Secondary Education Department (E&SED) to formalize the programme’s launch. Over a three-year period, approximately 30,000 girls enrolled in grades 6 to 12 across more than 500 government schools are expected to receive monthly stipends.
This initiative follows a prior pilot programme conducted in 2021 and is intended to improve school enrollment and retention rates among adolescent girls. The stipend is structured as income support to families, with WFP providing technical assistance in areas such as cash transfer operations and data management. The programme is part of broader efforts by WFP and E&SED to strengthen human capital through school-based interventions across the region.
