Key Information

Marginalised No More (MnM) was a project implemented by Street Child in Nepal that supported 7,856 girls from highly marginalised Musahar communities. The initiative aimed to improve foundational learning outcomes—particularly functional literacy and numeracy—while creating clear pathways to employment and income generation. It addressed key barriers to education and economic participation by combining accelerated learning with structured school and employment transition support, ensuring that girls could access education in ways that were relevant, flexible, and responsive to their realities.

The project delivered an accelerated learning programme using the Teaching at the Right Level (TaRL) approach and distance learning methods to rapidly strengthen basic skills. It facilitated enrolment into government schools for girls aged 10–14 through a School Transition Programme and supported girls aged 15 and above through an Employment Transition Programme focused on wage and self-employment opportunities. A four-month Life Skills Protection Circle programme complemented academic support by building confidence, safety awareness, and decision-making skills. The project also trained teachers, provided learning resources, and supported girls to establish small enterprises, village savings schemes, and peer support networks.
