School-Related Gender-Based Violence (SRGBV)

  • P Project/Program

? Activity Status: Unknown

Key Information

This project involved a study and advocacy at the local and national levels to contribute to efforts at enhancing children’s access to quality basic education and the strengthening of the protection against gender- based violence in and on the way to school. It involved the strengthening of the position of parents, teachers, girls, boys, and other key education stakeholders in communities, as well as civil society organisations, to influence related practices that abuse and/or discriminate against girls
and enhance protection of girls from school-related violence. Among others, the project popularised children’s rights through child rights clubs in schools and engaged with traditional authorities to reform customary practices such as child initiation/passage rites. Through the project, bye laws were passed to prohibit child marriage at the local level. Advocacy for policy reforms, including gender responsive budgeting, was also carried out at the national level. It was implemented in the Tonkolili, Kono, and
Kabala districts in collaboration with CONCERN Worldwide and Catholic Relief Services.
