Project: Integrated Governance, Education and Citizenship Programme (PIGEC)

  • P Project/Program

? Activity Status: Unknown

Key Information

This programme aimed at promoting equality in education access and learning outcomes between girls and boys in basic public education. The programme pursued this aim through teachers’ professional development in child-centred and gender-sensitive teaching methods, problem-solving,
numeracy, and literacy. The programme also supported girls’ acquisition of life skills, confidence building, and their participation in school governance through school clubs. To protect girls and avoid girls’ absence from schools during menstrual periods, pedagogical supervisors and teachers were offered training on this subject, and boys and girls were supported in the manufacture of reusable sanitary pads to minimize costs for low-income/poor households. Gender sensitive planning and budgeting by local authorities and municipalities were also promoted by the programme via its support to local advocacy groups, including women’s rights organisations and other civil society organisations.
