Key Information

UNESCO supports countries in delivering educational programs that empower children and young people to understand and exercise their rights, to think critically, to make sound ethical judgements, and to challenge injustice and promote fair societies. To this end, UNESCO builds the capacities of teachers, educators and policymakers through the following implementation strategies: 1) Guidance for policymakers: UNESCO has developed a Guide for policymakers on Strengthening the Rule of Law through Education. 2) Technical support for teachers: UNESCO has developed Handbooks for primary and secondary school teachers, which aim at Empowering Students for Just Societies. 3) Capacity building: UNESCO holds capacity-building workshops to train the capacities of policymakers, teachers’ trainers and teachers in different regions of the world. 4) Global Advocacy and Dialogue: UNESCO holds events to engage decision-makers, leading experts and innovative practitioners in a dialogue on effective strategies and practices. This programme is carried out in cooperation with the United Nations Office on Drug and Crime (UNODC).
