Key Information

This programme targeted 40 public primary schools and learners in 8 municipalities through technical and financial support to education authorities and civil society organisations. The programme contributed to changing gender norms in education by: Increasing gender equality in access to quality
education in 8 municipalities; improving the quality of education and retention of girls and boys in 60 schools; improving the application of gender sensitive teaching methods to promote active citizenship with special emphasis on the promotion of girls’ participation, citizenship, and leadership; and the strengthening of various parent and mother associations with literacy and numeracy skills to enable them to better play their roles related to mobilisation, control and monitoring of education budgets, and thereby contribute to a more gender balanced participation in education governance and influence
