Digital Study Hall
- I Implementer
Description
Digital Study Hall (DSH) works to improve education for children from low-income, rural, and slum communities in India by using technology to expand access to high-quality teaching. The organization records live classroom lessons from effective grassroots teachers and distributes these videos to underserved schools through a hub-and-spoke model. Local teachers use a mediation-based approach, pausing videos to engage students through discussion and interactive activities, while also strengthening their own teaching skills. Through this model, DSH supports teacher training, improves instructional quality, and promotes community participation in education.
In addition to academic content, DSH places a strong emphasis on gender equity and social empowerment. It has developed videos and facilitated critical dialogues on issues such as domestic violence, sexual abuse, child marriage, and the challenges faced by women and girls in India. DSH’s Gender Empowerment program specifically targets adolescent girls in underserved communities, operating in multiple districts in Uttar Pradesh and reaching thousands of girls in residential schools. Through these efforts, DSH integrates gender awareness and empowerment into its broader education mission, aiming to improve learning outcomes while addressing structural and social barriers affecting girls’ education.
